Penny in Boots

Still no real snow to speak of in Chicago this year, but a few light flurries and near sub-zero temps have people tossing around a lot of rock salt. The salt is by far the harshest part of winter for the pups’ paws, so this week seemed like the perfect time
Still no real snow to speak of in Chicago this year, but a few light flurries and near sub-zero temps have people tossing around a lot of rock salt. The salt is by far the harshest part of winter for the pups’ paws, so this week seemed like the perfect time to introduce Penny to wearing boots.Rhodesian Ridgeback, blog, dog boots, cute, chicago, adventure

At first Penny thought the boots were for her to eat

But after a quick consultation with Eko she learned the ruff truth

“Aw man, I have to wear these things!?”

Eko gracefully showed Penny the ropes of her new kicks. Then we spent some time practicing indoors

But boots are made for romping, so we suited up for a test-drive. The dogs generally don’t need boots at the beach, but I thought an off-leash trip would make it easier for Penny to find her snow-legs

I watched some hilarious wobble-legged-high-stepping

But my fearless pup quickly took to the new challenge

Penny cruised around the beach like a total pro. Between her jacket and her boots, Penny is both fashionable and functional for the season

Winter, do your worst!

And yes, OF COURSE I took video! I don’t think anything can top Eko’s first time in boots, but it’s still pretty cute. Check back tomorrow for all the highlights.

Comments for Penny in Boots

  1. now you are well prepared :o) I’ve heard about same crazy girls who put a penny in a shoe many moons ago , think your version of “penny loafers” is much better :o)

  2. dashlilly says:

oh the boots! The dreaded boots. It is funny and heartbreaking at the same time. Talk about a demonstration of trust from our pups!

  3. Allison Gray says:

That salt is rough, but the chemical ice melt some people (or in my neighborhood, store owners) use is super painful for doggy paws. Brooklyn hasn’t seen any snow either, but I was carrying my girl today when I came across an enthusiastic neighbor’s salt-ridden sidewalk.
Best of luck in your new kicks, Penny! It’s better than salt between your pads!

  4. Victoria says:

totally a fashionista – wow she looks great – and i can’t wait for the video

  5. Stef says:

That last photo is amazing!! She looks much more comfortable then she did in the house!! Love it and can’t wait for tomorrow’s video!

  6. Ellen Quilty says:

Wow!Penny got the concept quickly.Better than Eko I dare say.Boots are a great idea not just against salt but also to protect toes from being cut on the ice.We don’t have the salt problem because we walk in the woods and the fields but Nikki had an infected toe last winter from a cut so tiny I never even saw it.It wasn’t until the toe was swollen and she started acting like her leg was broken that I knew something was wrong.

  7. Kismet says:

Kyla wore booties sometimes and called them a fashion statement.

  8. It’s always a shocker when we find out that boots aren’t food. Why???? They look so delicious!

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

  9. coastingnz says:

Eko looks a little perplexed that Penny adjusted so quickly in that second to last photo lol.

  10. I can’t wait for the video!! I wish I had recorded Khoi’s first encounter with the boots. He had them off (all 4) before I could pick up the camera. There doesn’t seem to be Velcro strong enough to stop him.

  11. Penny, you got the shaft there! Did you notice Eko did not have to wear his boots. I would protest! We wear PAWZ boots on occasion, but the moment we step out the door, we forget they are on our paws and it is zoom, zoom. Can’t wait for the video!

  12. she is so precious! Can’t wait to see the video!

  13. Penny you look great in your boots, gotta save those toes.

  14. Jo Rhodes says:

How do you keep them on you pups? My boys are booting me out house and home. Not sure how they do it but they lose a boot each outing and the boots are expensive. Duct tape, super glue, cement, what’s your secret?

    Jo, Sam and Dean

  15. YAY! Paw protection and fashion all rolled into one Penny-sized package!

    Hugs, Sammy

  16. There is NOTHING more entertaining than the proverbial paw flick trying to remove offending kicks. Cracks me up every. single. time. đŸ™‚

  17. Jesse says:

Too cute. I wish we had some snow here for Oshie to frolick in. 80w over Christmas and new year and 64 today. Not complaining but would love a little taste of winter
