Thanks to a bit of help from Mother Nature we were able to celebrate Eko’s birthday with everything he enjoys best: sun, fun, treats, naps and love!

I take care of myself by taking care of my dogs. It's my daily meditation. It's the way I stretch my limbs and heart and soul each morning. Quarantine has made that self-care tough, but I'm fortunate to have the good health to figure out a way to give my dogs what they need to be happy

From secluded woodland to tiny beaches, we've had to go out of our way to find off-leash spots for Penny and Zero (and Lincoln) to run. It's been more than worth the effort. Letting go of the leash always lets go of whatever tension and frustration I've held on to

If you're struggling in quarantine, make sure to get out with your dog. I promise it will be one of the best things you can do to stay (relatively) sane! Full video of our quarantine adventures is up on YouTube - link to that video in my stories

Despite being decapitated by Penny as a puppy, Zero has gone on to live a full and healthy life!

Water freezes at 32 degrees, Rhodesian Ridgebacks freeze at 75 degrees. Or at least that's what my research leads me to believe

I suspect it's a holdover from their dinosaur heritage. It may be summer but blanket season never ends!

All of last week's responses about sterotypical attachment differences between male/female Ridgebacks were great, so if you missed it I'll link back to it in my stories

Now I'm interested in some more anecdotal data around food. If you have a male and female Ridgeback at home, who is first to a dropped treat? .

Not surprisingly, it's Penny for us. Miss Mayhem is an absolute assassin. In his wisdom, Zero's realized it's not worth trying to beat her to the punch. Much safer to just give me a mopey face until I give him a morsel directly!

When it's the nicest day of the year in Chicago but you're not allowed off leash

If nothing else, the dogs will come out quarantine stronger for having to drag me behind them on all our runs

Wherever you are, and however you can, hope you got to enjoy the long weekend

Napping on a wooden board might not seem ideal, especially with a dog bed just in the other room. But Zero doesn't want to be in the other room - ever! He can only sleep easy when he knows exactly where all his people are

Both my male Ridgebacks have been like this. A "You can't leave me!" level of attachment. Whereas Penny is more of a "You can't leave me" royal decree type girl who stays snuggled on the couch secure in the knowledge I am bound by her will

This definitely fits the stereotypical male/female Ridgeback personality split. Do you find your dogs fit or break that mold?

As a puppy we'd say, "She's a pistol." But we quickly realized she was more of a thermonuclear warhead - a single purpose mechanism for mass destruction

Even at rest she looks like the loaded weapon she is. In contrast to Zero, she's not an ambush hunter. In fact, she wants you to know she's coming. Half the fun is seeing whether your flight or fight instinct wins out

It's a trick question for her prey though, because Penny delights in either brawling until you run away, or chasing you down for a brawl! I guess it's considerate of her to give you a choice of which goes first

Zero takes inspiration from Elmer Fudd. He's an ov

Zero takes inspiration from Elmer Fudd. He's an overly ambitious ambush hunter with the all the subtlety of a misfired shotgun

With Penny playing the part of his "scwewy wabbit," Zero more often than not comes out as the one worse for wear

If nothing else, he's persistent! Who is your dog's hunting inspiration?
