As I’ve said before, I think of visiting the dog park a lot like driving a car. Neither activity is absolutely necessary and by nature they each carry inherent risk. However, with preparation and practice, both driving a car and visiting the dog park can open a wonderful world of possibilities. In the past five years I’ve visited dog parks across the country and learned a lot about how to make these trips safe, productive and fun. So with that in mind, here’s all the things I wish I know about dog parks five years ago: https://youtu.be/SF5FhJQgrJI

We don’t go much these days, but we have our yard to romp in. When we do go, it’s always during a week day when it is not very busy, and we go to walk. It seems 90% of the humans there want to stand in a group and chat, expecting the dogs to play. Mom wants to walk, so we walk circles and see pups for a few seconds here and there. It’s not a place to bring small children, your dog’s favorite toy, or food either.

  2. I must laugh at 0:29 as I saw what it means to be a pain in the neck LOL
I love your dog park and I bet Easy would love it too :o) we sadly have no dog parks in our area, but I think that would be a great idea to get one :o)

  3. I’m sure as a dog parent, it’s magic to have a good, clean dog park to visit – or maybe more than one. Meeting other pups and owners – giving the dogs a chance to run like the wind (especially if they tend to be cooped up most of the time)…….lots of positives. I’m sure though that you need to do a little “research” to find one that suits what your expectations are……nice that you all have a place that works for you!

had to watch this morning without sound but just as entertaining. Penny, Penny, Penny – she let you know straight away didn’t she I’m going to be a pain in the neck (yes definite pun on her behalf – I think she knew…..) but when you look at my face – you are mine, all mine lol. But hey was that Butch in the background near the start? Dear, dear Butch and now we have dear, dear Doc – goose bumps.

  5. At the dog park nearest our home, too many people treat it like a TV for small kids. They plop the dog down and off they go to socialize with other owners or worse, their phones-not paying much attention to the fur-kid. One person used to drop their dog off for the entire day and then proceeded to go to work! Yes, I am totally serious about that. Luckily Sam prefer our daily walks and the interaction with pups and people along the way. 🙂

  6. Great idea to get out at the first hint of trouble. Always leave ’em wanting more….

This biggest issue I have run into when I take Axel is that one parent who brings in their 10lb dog to the big dog side. Really?!? Then when a extra friendly big dog goes romping over, they reach down and pick up the little ine. So. ..the big dog starts jumping up to see the little one…and it’s on! Or those parents that never seem to see potty time….if you know what I mean. Ever since I adopted Ariel, we haven’t been back to the dog park. Ariel was abused….long story. …but it has taken me 3 months to get her to walk further than the 1 block radius we live on. She will go walking now…and over the neighborhood. But forget about a car….not sure I will ever get her to like that. I think she is scared to death that “other” bad world is out there, and she ain’t taking no chances. It’s OK though cause she wrestles at least 3 times a day with Axel….he loves rough play. And they both go to the baseball field to run, run, run when it is empty. It’s only 2 blocks from the house. Honestly, I rather have to take care of 2 dogs than deal with the people at the dog park….lol!

I truly LOVE your dogs! Hilarious!

Great but what about bird parks> Anyways, your picture of a ball park brings back memories. The Arizona Diamondbacks used to have one, then two Sunday afternoons where you could bring the pup to the park. Now every Sunday afternoon is dog friendly.

I only want eko n penny to demonstrate the dog park dos n donts, they do it so funny n cute at the same time

  11. Jo Rhodes says:

Dean is very fearful, so we try to avoid the park if there are too many dogs there. But sometimes we want to try out a small group. It’s important to talk with other owners so they know that you’re not trying to be an idiot when your dog is barking his fool head off.
    Happy almost Spring.
