The good news is the soft sand is back
The bad news is the soft sand is back
The mild spring weather seems to make the sand extra prone to sticking to the pups
It seems like Penny comes home with sand in every strand of hair
Even Eko can’t resist bringing home some souvenirs
When it comes to Eko and Penny, spring cleaning is less of a single act and more of a state of vigilance. That said, I probably shouldn’t be complaining…
I’m not sure how there’s any sand left at the beach once our pal Leo gets through with it
I took a quick survey (sample size: me) and I think spring is definitely the dirty season for my dogs. Winter snows only require a quick wipedown. Summer’s warmth quickly bakes off any dirt/sand. Fall’s cooler weather packs the ground firmer and makes it less likely for anything to stick to the pups.
But I imagine these survey results would vary by dog and location. What time of year do your four-legged friends most seem like mud-magnets?
In the words of a particularly famous game show (Family Feud)…”Survey says?”
Astute conclusion on fur-iend Leo the Bernese.
Springtime was always a killer. I think I gave him a bath almost every day. He would come back either with dead animal ‘stuff’ or geese poop or mud or all of the above. This in a half hour walk and trip to the park. He had the ‘best’ time doing it too.
also I forgot to add. I think that close up of Penny is my new favourite. she looks very adorable, innocent, and desperate need of a kiss, hug and much admiration.
Leo is as good a reason as any not to take our long-haired dogs to the beach. Good grief! 🙂
At our house it is not sand, but grass!! There is always grass everywhere in the house, in places we would have never thought it could be – light fixtures, in the toilet and we have even found some in our upper cabinets!! We feel your pain and cannot wait till the green grass shows up and doesn’t follow the Hooligans wherever they go!
spring is the dirty season here too… with the voles and moles the golddigger is as busy as a bee :o)
Try having a Shetland Sheepdog…..’nuff said lol
Early spring = mud = new vacuum cleaner and mop.
We normally despise the month of March as it is always a huge mess! Melting snow, fresh new wet snow, rain, puddles, all the dirt from winter, no good. April seems to start getting better. Your pal better have a dog shower at his house and a good dryer too!
We have the desert in our back yard, but no lake.
It IS amazing that there’s any sand left on that beach when the doggies get through with it. Hey! I have an idea! You can start your own beach at your house!
Love and licks,

Since we don’t have the elevation for Sierra snow, I would have to say late summer and early fall. That’s when the water levels at the lake drop quickly, leaving the muddy silt bed Running along the water line. You have to walk through ten to fifty feet of the sticky mush. Of course, Neeka and Khoi run through it, splashing mud/sand every where. They dry pretty quickly, but Khoi likes to hide souvenirs in his armpits and groin area. Makes a mess if I don’t catch it before we get home.
If you had a day like ours the sand is covered up again. In the summer I swear I sleep in a sand box.
Every time the snow melts or rain falls. So really, anytime except high summer and fall.
Fortunately Sam isn’t a magnet of any kind – unless “love magnet” counts…..he does have a lot of fans but no sand! HAHAHAHA

We have a pool in our backyard, so every summer my crazy girl Sadie will go for a swim, then promptly race around the yard find the dirtiest patch and roll like a pig in the mud!
