[VIDEO] The Story of Zero

It is often difficult in life to know you’re doing the right thing. Other times, thankfully, it’s quite easy. It’s been less than a week with Zero but there’s no doubt he’s the right one for us.

Comments for [VIDEO] The Story of Zero

  1. Jesse says:

Aww the clip of penny was heartbreaking but thankfully there was a ton of cuteness in this video. Congrats again on the new addition to the family.

  2. Piglove says:

aawww what a beautiful video sweet friends. Zero you are in the perfect forever home ((hogs and snout kisses)) XOXO – Bacon

  3. Emmadog says:

We’re so happy for you all! Bailie was scared of Madison the first days, but once she warmed up and realized Madison was here to stay, they became inseparable. We only hope our house survives their wrath and they are a wild pair! Enjoy, Zero will grow up so fast!

  4. meANXIETYme says:

Totally crying and smiling at the same time. This is an awesome start to the next part of your journey. Lots of hugs and snuggles to both Penny and Zero!

  5. Thanks! It broke my heart every time I saw Penny cry in her sleep, or play alone or just seem “off.” I think she’s going to love having the new charge around.

  6. The real challenge will be winning over Penny!

  7. Fingers crossed for the same result here! Penny is always better in a pair, and I think Zero will be too.

  8. Jesse says:

I can imagine that would be tough. I think she will love it too.

  9. Smile crying is pretty much my default face these days.

  10. Zero is adorable…………..and a wonderful addition to the family – Penny is going to enjoy having a playmate again…..!

    Hugs, Pam

  11. Piglove says:

Oh he will. I have no doubt about that my friend. None whatsoever <3 XOXO – Bacon

  12. KDKH says:

How precious! Enjoy the new addition to your family. Yes, seeing Penny crying in her sleep got to me, too.

  13. Pat says:

I don’ know how you could pick one out of that pile of eleven! All so adorable. 🙂

  14. liondogkgosi says:

Was tearing up throughout this. So beautiful. Zero is a lucky puppy

  15. KarenS says:

I am once again teary eyed and smiling. The pure joy of puppies is hard to resist. The words spoken going deep into my soul. A powerful and emotional one two punch.

I look forward to more of the story. And now I’m going to dab my eyes and suppress a sniffle and begin my day. And look forward to going home at the end of the day for Ridgie kisses from my pack. ❤❤❤

  16. What a wonderful video… I cried a lot but yes, Zero is the one for you…and for Emily and for Penny. Welcome home Zero…

  17. Gail Simburger says:

Zero seems so lovable, sweet and cute. So happy for you all!

  18. The best kind of kisses! Lots more smiles and joy to share. And yeah, maybe a sniffle or two.

  19. He and we are right where we should be.

  20. He’s a love monster, that’s for sure.

  21. Jan & Rusty says:

Nothing cuter than 11 puppies! ❤️❤️ Welcome to your forever home, Zero!! And what a wonderful home it is! I’m so looking forward to your new adventures. Thanks again, Will, for sharing your stories with us.

  22. Shirley Andonie says:

So very excited for you, Emily & Penny. I can’t wait for your stories and videos of the new little guy. Your writing is always so uplifting!

  23. harrispen says:

Welcome home Zero. Nothing can make you smile more than a video full of puppy playfulness. Thanks!

  24. Shannon says:

Congratulations!! And crying again. Start marking these NSFW will you?

  25. T&S says:

I watched this video two times.
    Love, love, love. And hope.
too you all (one is for Eko, my favorite one).

  26. Oh my, tears of joy watching at that puppy fest! My only questions are why doesn’t WP have a “love” button and how could you decide on only one? I’d have been tempted to scoop up the whole kitten-caboodle! Looking forward to seeing how this wrinkly little sweetheart grows and flourishes. ღ

  27. Tossing Eko’s blanket to a sea of puppies is such a gorgeous metaphor for life. I lost it then, but in a good way. You write such moving prose, Will. I’m so happy for all of you. We grieve our losses, but life continues on. You’ve don Mr. Eko proud.

  28. Jo Rhodes says:

I’m at work. I can’t cry here. Oh to miss someone so bitterly while welcoming a new heart. Ouch! Yay?! Hooray, for new beginnings!!! Here’s hoping Zero keeps his new puppy smell for good long while!
Zero, your brother’s proud of you. Your sister will teach you how to get in good trouble, and how to cute your way out of it.
Congratulations again, Jo, Sam and Dean

  29. Jo Rhodes says:

    Happy birthday Will!

  30. Lynn Wolford says:

Oh boy. Penny crying in her sleep — I had tears. You’ve done the right thing for all of you. Zero is so adorable. My big question is … did YOU pick Zero? Or did Zero pick YOU? Or maybe you found each other and just “knew”. He doesn’t know it yet, but he’s the luckiest little boy there could ever be. So sweet.

  31. Elyse says:

You made my day with this video, Will. What an adorable bunch! Long and happy life to Zero.

  32. Victoria Coleman says:

Wow my bday was yesterday – good month for birthdays. That said great video – zero is such a cutie. Penny nearly broke my heart as she was whimpering under the blankets -give her a big hug for me, Rigby and Muffin – i am sure right now she is going to love having zero to cuddle up with on cold nights and to play with at the beach!

  33. coastingnz says:

what fun seeing Zero with his siblings – but oh my gosh how to choose! How did you not take them all home lol. Adorable the lot of them but I suspect Zero did just that…. zeroed in on you and that was that. Fun times ahead and he seriously could not be going to a more loving home. One very lucky boy.

  34. Eve Walraven says:

Welcome to the pack – Zero! Where you will find lots of love and adventures! Congratulations to you, Emily and Penny! I can’t wait for the new posts about the little guy and Penny learning about each other and with you guys too!! Enjoy while he is little and posts lots of photos for us! Congrats again as Eko is surely watching and is happy for you all!

  35. Appreciate all the hearts, especially the last one.

  36. I consider myself a moral person, but I realized I’m not beyond stealing 11 puppies and driving off into the sunset. So tempting!

  37. Thank you! It seemed a fitting gesture for the moment, and nothing makes me happier than to see Zero wrapped in that blanket, sleeping in my arms.

  38. Haha I can only imagine what my face has looked like this past week as it morphs between laughter, tears, smiles and sobs all in an instant. Luckily Zero doesn’t seem to mind!

  39. Glad to hear it. As always, we’re here to make the best of whatever time we have.

  40. This spring is going to be a blast. Can’t wait to see Penny introduce her little bro to her favorite stomping grounds.

  41. Emily gave me a stern talking to about how we could only get just one!

  42. I’m snapping away like crazy, they don’t stay little for long!

  43. LOL, right there with you at the arraignment, Will!

  44. TheRidgebackLife says:

I want one, I want one, I want one…..There’s just something about Ridgie puppies that I just can’t get enough of. Of course, there is very little room left on our bed for another one and Neeka and Khoi will not relinquish their spots, so I will have to love the inner puppy in them, which is not hard to do. Zero is a handsome boy and Penny will love teaching him all her tricks. Can’t wait for more video! This made my morning. Congratulations again to your growing family!

  45. Tiffanie says:

I always get emotional watching your beautiful, thoughtful journey.
Thank you for sharing, we are healing right along side you. I can’t to expand our hearts again with pups. ❤

  46. cathwhistler says:

So, so, so, so happy for you all! <3 <3 <3

  47. Oh this makes me sooooooooooooooooooo happy!! Sooo happy! Sooo beautiful! but…you were in Michigan????????? That’s where I live! Were you in Northern Michigan? I am so happy I could burst. My husband and I both are smiling, but I am smiling with tears in my eyes…….happy (and I will admit, nostalgic), tears…but happy just the same! Much love to all of you!!!!!!!

  48. Robyn Brown says:

Beautifully said, Will. Can’t wait to watch Zero grow. Spring will be so much fun at the beach. Penny will be able to show Zero all of her favorite spots to hang out. Have a wonderful and memory making weekend!

  49. omg, omg yes yes I’m so happy for you and Emily!! Congrats on the new addition, I can’t wait to follow along with this guys adventures. I love the name!

  50. lynneplus3 says:

    So.much.yes!!!!! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!

  51. Michael and Maureen Bondor says:

    Will,

How did you choose Zero from amongst the 11 pups? Could you make a video about this process?

    Thanks!

    Michael and Maureen Bondor

  52. Love love love this! Yay, Zero! Looks like Eko picked a winner for his family. Well done.

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

  53. It’s impossible not to want to steal them all!

  54. Thanks so much for traveling along, through thick and thin.

  55. Thank you – feels good to find our matching smiles again.

  56. Thank you! We were up near Grand Rapids – is that anywhere by you guys?

  57. I can’t wait to get them both out on the sand together, going to be a hoot.

  58. Picking a pup is a bit of an art and a bit of a science, with no guarantees. But I do want to make a video about choosing a breeder/puppy that includes all the info I use to make a decision. The short answer for Zero is that I knew I wanted a boy (which thankfully narrowed me down to 4 pups in this case). During our visit we evaluated temperament/disposition and Mary (our breeder) did the same on her own with some expert help. Independently, Emily, Mary and I all felt that “Orange Boy” would be the best fit.

  59. And now the karma train comes roaring down the track to catch up with Penny!

  60. Oh yeah our first video 🙂 I am crying and smiling and my heart is filled with joy for you guys! I can’t wait for what is to come Will! Kiss that adorable wrinkled face for me, Eko lead you well 🙂

  61. I am so happy for you! Now these days we are trying to learn our 8 1/2 weeks old RR-girl to be home alone. It is not so easy when you hear she cries. Do you have any tricks? We have a soon to be 4 year old RR-girl as well, but they are not best friends yet, but moving forward 😉 Greetings from Andrea (Shania and Amina)

  62. Michael and Maureen Bondor says:

Thank you! Looking forward to the video (of course, I look forward to al your videos!)

  63. Integration of a new pup takes time. Eko didn’t acknowledge Penny’s existence for the better part of a week! I find it’s really helpful to get both dogs out of the house, somewhere off leash where they can play together.

Crate training is tough, but tasty treats (try frozen peanut butter in a kong toy) and consistency really do pay off. Good luck!

  64. Thank you for the answer. We have had them out of the house off leash, and little Amina follow Shania as the leader. It has only been a week, so I believe they will become good friends.

I will try with a good treat tomorrow

  65. cafall says:

I’m so amazingly happy for all of you!

    Welcome, Zero!

    Monty, Harlow, and Ramble

  66. coastingnz says:

Would have been tempting though to load them all in right – Penny wouldn’t have been so impressed had you done that lol

  67. fredrieka says:

Fantastic ! !!!congratulations it took us 2 year’s but it was worth we love our Wilma

  68. tom says:

Congrats Will, Emily! You will have very full lives for the next few months, and not a few sleepless nights. Funny how things work out, when you open your heart. Eko indeed saw your pain and helped put the pieces in place for a new soul in your lives. Penny is due for payback for her needle sharp teeth on Eko! All the best, you two, and we are eternally grateful for your posts and videos. Kija is always riveted when we play your latest!
