[VIDEO] Vermont Vacation

Sure, it might have been easier to go on vacation without my dogs, but it would have been a whole lot less fun!

there is simply no better joy than watching your dogs play and enjoy themselves – i know i can’t get enough of mine doing it! Thanks for sharing all the pics – family, friends and such good times

I started this post with a tear, hard swallow and a sigh…toward the end I smiled and thought…nice !!
I can only imagine what you went through in real life during this time. Good for you Wil. Life and all its wisdom. Thank you for sharing and teaching us along the way.

  4. KarenS says:

All I can say is you are absolutely correct about traveling with your pups if you can. Ours have been on so many over the years and the trips have always been a joy. For both human and dogs.

Gorgeous setting for a wonderful family reunion. Thanks for sharing this brought a welcome smile after a long week

  5. meANXIETYme says:

What a great BOATLOAD of memories for you to keep with you furever. So glad it went well and that everyone had time to relax and enjoy. And glad the trip went safely!

  6. Connie Taylor says:

We just took a 6 day trip to visit family up in West Virginia and took our two kids with us. They’re not the happiest traveling (they thought they were headed to the vet!), but after our arrival it was fun to watch our son’s three dogs and ours play and catch up on their latest doggie gossip. Plus there were 7 puppies along (but they were too young to be seen by our guys). Riley and Bentley got to see their first sheep, cow, goat and deer. Being small city kids they weren’t too sure about that side of nature. Like your trip, it was fun, there were new adventures for them but they’re happiest now being back home sleeping in their own beds .

  7. No better way to recharge than with the help of your pups.

  8. Same way I felt! Good to both cry and smile.

  9. Thanks! We had such a great time, but it’s definitely good to be home. Now to figure out this whole parenting thing. Should only take me a week or two, right?

  10. Exactly. The trip lasted a week, but I love having all the photos, videos and memories to keep with us.

  11. Ah yes, that post-vacation sleep is a deep and glorious thing.

  12. Kismet says:

It appears that you were the only one who brought dogs to the family reunion. Get a new family.

  13. Clearly vacationing with YOUR dogs is bliss. Such a lovely family vacay. Thanks for sharing the good times with the rest of us. Happy weekend.

  14. Turok says:

I see Eko in Zero, can’t believe how big he’s getting, possibly he’ll be bigger than Eko full grown. And yes, I demand you to take me and my Lab along on next trip of yours! Great video to go with previous blog. Thanks.

  15. Shirley Andonie says:

Beautiful family, awesome vacation! Thanks for sharing!

  16. Oh yeah. I wouldn’t want to miss one flying-dinosaur, hopping-bunny, or snoozing-security-detail moment. So joyous!

  17. Ellen Quilty says:

What a joyous week you all had! Thanks for sharing with us.

Hi Will! My family and I love your blog. We have fallen in love with the Rhodesian Ridgeback breed, and your posts have been an amazing resource for us. We live in Halifax, Canada, and have found a few breeders who we’ve reached out to regarding welcoming a ridgeback puppy within the next 8-10 months (when I finish med school). We’ve even met a local breeder to hang out with some of her 4 month old ridgeback pups – our hearts were stolen!

Question: I’ve heard from a few people that the liver-nose ridgebacks have a more high-strung temperament compared to the black-nosed dogs. To you knowledge, is there any truth to this, or is this more of an urban legend? Of course, we expect any ridgeback to be energetic (we have an active family with 3 school-aged kids, so that is part of the reason we love the breed) – but wondering if you can give any insight into the whole brown-vs-black nosed temperament question.

Congratulations on the recent expansion of your family, and thank you!
    Johneen

  20. Zero and Penny are enough dog for about ten families!

  21. Traveling with pups is definitely something that takes practice for sure. I’m fortunate that I was able to start my pups young.

  22. A little dog food and water go a long way! Zero still has a number of months of growth ahead, so my guess is he’ll likely end up as the largest lap dog.

  23. Well worth the drive for sure.

  24. coastingnz says:

fantastic – our boys love our adventures and they’re what’s made them all the more memorable. Family holidays just aren’t the same if you don’t have all the family with you lol

  25. A bit of a daunting drive, but well worth it for such a memorable week.

  26. Hey Johneen, glad you like the blog! Happy to hear it’s been helpful as you begin your own Ridgeback journey. In my opinion the liver-nose reputation is definitely an old sailor’s tail. Zero’s mom is livernose and she’s a total sweetheart. All dogs have their own temperament and disposition and you’re much better off evaluating each one uniquely. My Penny has a nose as black as they come, but she puts every livernose to shame in the mischief and mayhem department! Good luck on your search, happy to answer any other questions you have.

  27. Exactly. Even better, with Breakers the adventure comes to the boys! Still trying to figure out the right lotto numbers to get us a first class boat over to NZ.

  28. Emmadog says:

We fully agree. Vacations are simply not the same without the furry ones along. Even when the dogs have to vacation in the city, it is still a blast!

  29. TheRidgebackLife says:

We’ve been going back and forth on whether or not to take Neeka and Khoi with us to Bend, OR in September. The 8 1/2 hour drive isn’t the deterrent, it’s all the leash time once we’re there. It looks like your place in Vermont was perfect for entertaining the pups. So jealous. I think we’ll scout Bend for our trip with dogs next time. Fortunately we have a family ranch on the Ca coast that acts as our Vermont vacation. Lots of running room and tree dodging!

  30. cathwhistler says:

My grin is ear-to-ear… truly one of your best videos, and the joy in your voice is infectious! Happy Summer! <3

  31. What a GREAT family fun video and of course it wouldn’t have been complete without the dogs…..the joy they show in running free is certainly infectious – watching them fly through the woods and the fields – it reminds us that we can be as FREE as we want to be. So happy you all had a good time………….life should be just like that!

    Pam

  32. Meme says:

Thanks so much for your insight, Will. Cheers!

  33. They may not be dock diving champs, but they could definitely win gold in dock belly flopping. 🙂 So happy you had a good trip. We definitely agree that vacations are better with dogs.

  34. Barbara Richie says:

Love it! We always take our dogs on vacation. End of September, Outer Banks NC, dog friendly house – on the beach!!! Wouldn’t have it any other way!!!

  35. Anne says:

Another wonderful video. That looked like the perfect family vacation. We are thinking about going back to a dog friendly beach that we went to before with our dogs. They had so much fun running up and down the beach chasing each other. They didn’t care for the ocean so much though. We really enjoyed having them with us. Thanks for sharing your vacation memories with us.

  36. T&S says:

Wow what a place, what a video
Zero and Penny look so happy there
We bring our dogs always on vacation too

  37. daisymae2017 says:

Hope you and your dogs had fun?

  38. Shalini says:

    love them 🙂

  39. I bring mine too, can’t leave them home. They sure are happy to be with you.

  40. Standing ovation!! LOVED THIS! What a gorgeous place to vacation too!

  41. KDKH says:

Our four dogs were tired of us going on vacation without them. We got tired of leaving them behind. So we bought a camper so that the dogs can come with us! Family vacations will never be the same – they’ll be better!
