Mary, Zero’s breeder, calls it the “Tigger gene.” But whatever you call it, Zero has some serious bounce in him. I picked up a Sony Action cam this week to help me capture the high-flying pup in action. If you’re interested in an action cam for your dog, I highly recommend this Sony FDR – X3000.  A proliferation of competitors to GoPro has really broken the action camera market wide open.  There are more choices than ever for consumers, which is great, but the glut of options can be overwhelming. After exhaustive research I landed on the Sony not only for it’s image quality, but also for it’s unrivaled image stabilization. If like me, your camera will be bouncing around (or on top of) your dog, the Sony gives you by far the smoothest video possible.

Comments for The Rhodesian Ridgeback Tigger Gene

  1. wow it’s even for under da sea… will you have two yellow submarines this summer? love the shots, it is like tv … well done… and I think zero trashed the high jumping record of Mr. Bubka ;O)))

  2. Shirley Andonie says:

Very nice! Technology is amazing! Perfect for those two dogs and their boundless energy!

  3. Oh boy – more fun than a barrel full of ridgebacks! Good luck with the new camera………

    Hugs, Pam and Teddy

  4. C. Taylor says:

Look, it’s a bird, its a plane, no its “Super Zero”!!!! Great shots of his graceful abilities. Looks like Link loves his days out on the beach with the kids. Have a great weekend and Emily, “Happy First Mother’s Day”

  5. Murphy's Law says:

Good grief!! That’s a lot of bouncing dogs! I can’t believe the height Zero can achieve. I would be afraid of a back injury….but I’m probably overly cautious.

And how adorable is Lincoln, enjoying his ride on daddy’s back! You hit the Lottery with your wife, your son, and, of course, the four-legged wonders. You’re a lucky man Will.

Happy Mother’s Day to your better half!!

  6. What fun! Thank you for sharing.

  7. Will (MarkingOurTerritory.com) says:

For our next trick I’ll be strapping it underneath Penny as she swims across Lake Michigan!

  8. Will (MarkingOurTerritory.com) says:

Thanks! And yes, we’ve certainly come a long way.

  9. Will (MarkingOurTerritory.com) says:

Thanks! We’ve gotten a big kick out of the new rig so far. No doubt it will be great for our summer travel.

  10. Will (MarkingOurTerritory.com) says:

Lincoln has to hold some kind of record for most days visiting the dog park as a percentage of his total days alive.

  11. Will (MarkingOurTerritory.com) says:

I definitely feel like I won the life lotto for sure. Very lucky to have this crew with me. And yes, since landing isn’t his forte we keep Mr. Bounce A Lot to soft-dirt and sand for his antics.

  12. Emmadog says:

We have a Sony Action Cam from a few years ago. The dog mount always slipped to the side, and the shots were mainly of the back of the head. We might have to look into this newer one.

  13. RidgebackLife says:

Love it! The first thing I noticed with the camera on his back, was Eko’s collar is on it’s last notch. Zero has already surpassed Eko’s neck size. Glad to see he’s still wearing it though. No more growing Zero.
    Happy Mother’s Day to Emily

  14. Geri Zeibert says:

What a wonderful life you are giving these dogs! Blessings to you and your entire pack both 2 & 4 legged.

  15. Sue says:

Love seeing the dogs in action and the baby’s smiling face. I hope you and your family have a fantastic weekend.

  16. Sure will ! Enjoy…………I’m still using my GoPro but we also have an OLDER Sony camera that we love because it’s so small. Easy to take ANYWHERE!

  17. Michelle says:

Nice to see you hands-free! Thanks for the tips on the camera, we have a small go pro now too. Our Lola has the tigger gene so I get it. Maybe put a float on the camera to slow its descent?

  18. Will (MarkingOurTerritory.com) says:

I’ve heard a lot of mixed reviews about those dog mounts. I think depending on the dog they can really slide all over. This new stabilization feature in-camera makes a big difference, but I also think the fact I use the (human) chest mount on Zero helps anchor it better. Though that won’t work for smaller dogs.

  19. Will (MarkingOurTerritory.com) says:

When the leather is pliable it just fits right, but when warped in the water/sun it definitely gets wonky. I’m looking around for some new collars for the crew, but I’ll keep that one always.

  20. Will (MarkingOurTerritory.com) says:

It seems only fair given the life they give to me!

  21. Will (MarkingOurTerritory.com) says:

    Thanks, you too!

  22. Will (MarkingOurTerritory.com) says:

I’m working on rigging Zero to a series of balloons for just this purpose 😉

  23. Kismet says:

    Water proof?

  24. So fun. Put a tiny life jacket on the new camera, in case it takes a dip. #safetyfirst

  25. Perhaps with some practice, Zero’s ears can help him stick his landings a little more sure-footedly. Great camera work.

  26. Will (MarkingOurTerritory.com) says:

Zero and Penny are. The camera is splash proof on its own, waterproof when placed in the enclosed housing.
