How Much Do Rhodesian Ridgebacks Weigh?

The question is not how much does a Ridgeback weigh, but how much should they weigh. The answer depends entirely on the individual dog. Today’s video covers some helpful guidelines for ensuring your Ridgeback stays at their healthiest weight, whatever that number may be.

Comments for How Much Do Rhodesian Ridgebacks Weigh?

  1. we are on the way to cut back the meals and to reduce the treats…. for Phenny the question is: how much should a st. bernard dog weigh? ;O))))))

Great video! I would enjoy some more product reviews. I found your coverage of the collars and the bed so helpful. What do you use for dental cleaning? Toothbrushing, treat chews, etc.?

  3. Marla Hieshima says:

Thank you for this video! I don’t know how many Ridgebacks I have seen that are at least 20lbs over weight and the owner says it’s “all muscle”. Seems that many people think the heavier the dog the more bad ass. So not true. I hope that people will start to see themselves in this video and put the dog’s health above their machoism. Thank you!

  4. Linda Diane Feldt says:

When I had Ridgebacks I was constantly being told by strangers that my dogs were too skinny. My mentors said they were just right. Many people aren’t used to seeing lean dogs – so prepare to do a lot of educating!

  5. Kismet says:

They tell human overweights to “see Jenny”. For dogs, “see Penny”.

I have always battled weight with Khoi. Neeka got down to a nice lean weight, then got into some veggie sticks (a LOT of veggie sticks) I inadvertently left on the counter, and she bloated up. She looked pregnant. Now we’re back to work. Their vet once told me, an slightly underweight dog is healthier than an at weight dog. I guess that would help counter binge eating Now it’s the season to keep Khoi out of the vegetable garden and blueberries. My work is never done.

Yes I agree it’s easy to indulge that doggy face wanting what you are eating too and they also have a never ending appetite! But I just really wanted to say I love the part of the video where Lincoln is talking to the two sleeping pups whether they are responding to him or not! LOL

  8. Eve Uhlmann says:

I’ve always found weight management a challenge with RR’s..I mainly feed raw, with some biscuits…thanks for the reminder … you’re right…they are ALWAYS hungry!!!!!!

  9. lak says:

Weight is an issue for my dog as well…actually for me since I control the food. Thanks for the reminders

  10. Deb Cooper says:

Will, where did you take the family to the dog beach in Michigan? Do you have any suggestions about dog beaches to visit where both the dogs and people can swim? Maybe you could do a guide to travel spots you have been to with your family. Thanks,
    Deb
