My love of carving notwithstanding, Emily made Eko and I return these pumpkins last yearÂ
The rule is that each creature in the house gets to pick one, and only one, pumpkin
Some people think carving pumpkins is a joke, but around here it’s a serious operation.
“Scalpel. Check.”
Say what you will about our methods, but we’ve never lost a patient.
“I NEED 50 CCs OF PUMPKIN, STAT!”
Halloweens of years past have been a two man (or one man/one dog, or one man/one crocodile) operation but this year we’ve got Pumpkin Penny on the team with us
In the end, my pumpkins never turn out quite as glorious as I imagine them, but it’s never not fun carving them. I’m officially on the look out for fun dog-themed pumpkin carving ideas so be sure to let me know if you have any good ones!
We do a cat pumpkin for Sammy every year…….it’s always the highlight of Halloween night when all the neighborhood kids come to see what we’ve done for “this year”…..funny but we’ve not changed the original cat pumpkin design – just the SIZE of the pumpkin has changed – mainly because the smaller the pumpkin the less work for the “surgeon” – my husband!

fall is my absolute favorite season – and i already bought our pumpkin!! Getting excited about the carving too – can’t wait to see yours – it will be much more elaborate than mine but the fun is all in the carving off it!
whatever you will do I’m sure to watch you will be as funny as every year! how about this one: http://www.canidae.com/blog/2012/10/how-to-carve-pumpkin-that-looks-just.html its easy (said the woman who nails EVERY pumpkin project)
I wish we could grow pumpkins here. Damn Wabbits. Where’s Elmer Fudd when you need him?
I agree, Fall is the best! And those surgical photos made me snort laugh!!!! AWESOME!
You must have a closet devoted to nothing but dog costumes and accessories. From the looks of it, I’d say Eko and Penny enjoy playing dress-up. “What will that crazy Will make us wear today?” They are the most patient Ridgebacks I’ve seen outside the show ring. You must have the world’s best food and treats.
Pumpkins, ghosts, goblins, and doggy treats! I go trick or treating along with the rest of the dogs in our hood. The neighbors enjoy it. I’m going as a pirate this year. Woof, woof.
You all still have a few “firsts” left with Penny, Halloween being one of them. I’m sure you three will find just the right costumes! Bailie got to don her Halloween collar today which was exciting. Last year she only had her puppy collar, so she fells like she really has arrived with the big dogs now.
GAH! You boys have outdone yourselves again! The surgery. The ticking croc. Too crazy! I am afraid of pumpkins, so my suggestion is cook them and eat them. Jack-o-lanterns…. *shiver*
Love and licks,
Cupcake
can’t believe it’s nearly halloween, it’s craziness!
I think you should make a wolfy pumpkin:-)
We love Halloween too, and pumpkin carving is happening this weekend! Woohoo!! (Love your assistant surgeon, by the way! 😉 )
I think you should get a huge pumpkin and put Penny inside it? Is she still small enough? With just her little head popping out the top.
OMD! Those are some fangtastic photos!! We can’t wait to see what you all get up to this year.
Wally & Sammy
Haha love this post and pictures! I love fall and Halloween too
