Shh, Don’t Tell Fall, But Summer Is Back!

Fall gave summer a swift kick out the door here in Chicago, but for the past couple of days summer has snuck back for a visit.  These glimpses of summer are always brief, so the city comes alive with people and pets eager for one last taste of  summer fun.
Fall gave summer a swift kick out the door here in Chicago, but for the past couple of days summer has snuck back for a visit.  These glimpses of summer are always brief, so the city comes alive with people and pets eager for one last taste of  summer fun.  Eko and I joined the fray and relived some of our favorite summer activities.

For Eko and the Yellow Lab, it was love at first sniff.  This doofy puppy broke up the summer love affair, but Eko will always cherish that moment

It was the first day in a long time that it was actually warm enough for Eko to want some water at the park

As usual, Eko decided to drink water in the hardest way possible

After getting riled up by a feisty little guy, Eko still had plenty of energy.  I knew our time was short so we headed over to the beach for the true summer experience

Eko bounded through the sand and dove into the water, ready to chase after that duck.  He was slightly disappointed that the “duck” was actually a terrier, but he was still happy to chase the little guy around the beach

And regardless of the season, Eko is always willing to steal a bone or two in order to get other dogs to chase him

Eventually we had to leave, but Eko did his best to take as much of the beach with us as possible

Even as I type this, storm clouds are rolling in and the temperature is dropping.  I knew it couldn’t last forever, but we definitely made the most of our time.  Thanks for stopping by one last time Summer, see you next year!

Comments for Shh, Don’t Tell Fall, But Summer Is Back!

  1. Oh, the look between the two lovers in the first shot is just lovely. Glad you had today 🙂

  2. Bittersweet…these last few days in Chicago! Eko looks like he knows what’s coming in the last shot!

  3. Sharon says:

Will did you read the story about the dog that saved the 2 girlsand lost his snout – http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2012/10/12/dog-lost-snout/1630913/?morestories=obinsite. Now doctors in the US are trying to fix him up. I’m thinking the dog might need a little cheering up from Eko.

  4. I always say this but Eko looks so distinguished all of the time! I just figured out a Halloween costume for him! Sherlock Holmes!

  5. Great Post!!!! I just love your adventures with EKO!!!!! 🙂 Kenny T

  6. Jorie says:

And I think tomorrow, fall is supposed to come back? Oh, who knows anymore. Main thing is, Eko enjoyed the nice weather!

  7. Boomdeeadda says:

That is one crazy looking black puppy and he’s being a real budd-in-ski. His eyes are wacko, too much Sun? Well how lucky are you all there in Chicago, even if it was fleeting. I am so envious too that you have that beach to hang on, that would be crazy awesome. Too bad the blonde babe got away, she was really cute and was giving Eko THE look for sure.

  8. How great the Eko is such a friendly dogs dog! Love the play bow – always one of my favourites.
We are supposed to be in Spring here and the last couple of days have been Cold and Rainy. I was wondering who had stolen our summer – now I know – it was YOU! Definitely you, cause as you say the cold is coming back, so, miraculously, is our sun and warmth. Thanks for returning it 😀

  9. Eko is huge!!!
Next to that terrier he looks like a horse, he still have some days left of summer, it rains now but that doesn’t stop Doggy from having fun, he likes the rain.

  10. Jerry and I are definitely not used to the fickle midwest weather. We woke up to 71 degrees and by noon it was 50 degrees with a biting wind. This morning we awoke to 38 degrees. I don’t know why, but Arri hates the wind. It makes us laugh seeing her turn her head trying to make it stop blowing on her butt. Ha!

  11. Rebecca says:

What a beautiful Ridgeback! Reading this brought tears to my eyes. I lost my Halley last year on November 5th. It was one of the worst days of my life. She brought me joy and unconditional love for almost 10 years until cancer took her. She also was a gorgeous Rhodesian Ridgeback. Cherish every moment with Eko. <3
