What do pets think about?

We’ve all be there, sitting at a desk, looking off into the distance, trying to figure something out. A problem, a schedule, or maybe just considering where to grab lunch. In any case, we all know what that look means when we see someone else staring out into space. Well
We’ve all be there, sitting at a desk, looking off into the distance, trying to figure something out. A problem, a schedule, or maybe just considering where to grab lunch. In any case, we all know what that look means when we see someone else staring out into space.Well every once in a while I catch one of my pups with the exact same look.18.1

Is Eko pondering  life’s mysteries or just thinking about how he can make dinner arrive early

Even better is when I see the moment one of the dogs transitions from an outward activity to an internal self-examination. Penny will often go from chomping on a bone to slowly stopping until she just sits there with “the look.”

18.2

“Why are we all here?”

And I’m not sure why, but it seems that regardless of species, when you’re lost in thought you always tilt your head down.

18.3

“Am I saving enough for retirement?”

It’s not just at home – even when we’re at the beach I’ve caught Penny or Eko pondering some deep question. Occasionally they’ll both just stop and stare into the distance like they’re considering some great mystery together.18.4

“Whenever we get in that car with Will it takes us to this beach. You don’t think Will controls the car do you?”

In truth I can only guess at what Penny might be thinking about when she goes from a full sprint to a dead stop at the beach and stares off for a minute.

18.5

“Did I leave the oven on?”

But what I don’t have to guess at how hilarious it is when one of the pups shocks the other out of that deep thoughtfulness.

18.6

Eko surprised Penny, who reared up and promptly fell on her butt!

What I wouldn’t give to find out what our pets think about! Well, when they’re not thinking about food that is. Any guesses?

Comments for What do pets think about?

  1. that are important questions… why we all are there… no idea… I will ponder about :o) I’m not sure if I would really know what Easy thinks… I’m afraid it could be confusing :o)

  2. We wonder about the same thing! Those captions are hysterical, and I can’t believe you caught that last shot – priceless!

  3. Kyla says:

Penny is auditioning for a part in the next beach movie that features a dancing dog.

  4. Dakota is just wondering when his next bone will be 🙂

  5. How to get the next meal. Or extra treats.

  6. I am sure Kahlua wonders why people play any game other than fetch.
I love how the Ridgeback puppies’ extra furrowed brows make them look even more pensive.

  7. Emmadog says:

A lot of times Mom would like to know, but often she feels it may be better not knowing. What a great post with fun pics!

  8. I do think they are pondering the mysteries of life…although I think most of Jack’s introspection revolves around the origins of bacon.

  9. Victoria says:

Muffin crosses her two front paws and stares off into the ether….Rigs lays his head on his paws and just looks contemplative……..no idea what they are thinking but i am pretty sure it has to do with treats, toys or outside playtime!

  10. Dottie and Tuffy-Cat says:

After watching Tuffy-Cat for some time now, I’ve learned that what they (our pets) are thinking is probably only on THEIR “Need to Know” list. But, the important thing is that their humans care enough to try to key into that quiet moment. It still boils down to what’s for dinner.

  11. Elyse says:

Duncan is trying to figure out why we don’t just give up and let him eat our socks.

  12. dogblog01 says:

I always wonder what Sammie is thinking when she cocks her head at something I say. It’s almost like, “I know you’re talking to me, but I’m not sure what you’re saying! I’m trying to listen!”

  13. Marcela says:

Treats, would be my best guess:-)

  14. dogdaz says:

Love the last picture. Sometimes I can almost see thought bubbles over my animals heads (I know that is too weird right?). Mostly I think Louise is saying, “love scared love love scared food food” and Sofie is saying “me me me me me food me”

  15. My most favorite thing to think deeply about is….. Duh. I can think about it for hours and hours!

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

  16. I swear Marty’s main focus is how to get Da Bird out of the cupboard. Ralphie is how to plan the great escape out the front door. Anne is food food food. Mazie ILoveYouILoveYouIloveYou. Abbe pet my belly pet my belly. Pretty simple minds here. It was much different when I had Oskar. I always had to watch him. He was always thinking and I never knew what mischief he was planning 🙂

  17. More food and then more food and play and more play and sniffing and more sniffing and finally sleep and more sleep.

  18. hilarious, my dog does the self-examination thing to when he’s with his bones or lovers (stuffed animals). Does your dog meditate when outside? I swear mine does its CUTE

  19. 99% of the time I think mine are thinking about food! Great thinking photos.

  20. Leslie Smith says:

Hello!! Someone tagged me in a post you had around on Facebook because my dog looks EXACTLY like your dog, Eko. Except my dog, Kiya, is a female. I would love to send you a photo of Kiya if that is possible. My husband and I have been trying to figure out what breed she is and Eko looks remarkably similar. Please email me; we would love to figure out what breed she is! I can’t post a photo on here, otherwise I would have. Hope to hear from you soon!
