After months of trying to steal Eko’s bed instead of sleeping in her crate, Penny’s ultimate puppy-triumph was finally getting a bed of her own.

Penny’s loved having a bed of her own to stretch out on

For a few months, Penny took every opportunity to enjoy her new bed. She’d claim it, stretch out on it, and perch on it like a queen on her throne.

But since our move to the new apartment I’ve noticed a strange phenomenon.

Instead of enjoying the space of her big bed, Penny started creeping closer to Eko

So much so that I’d find her halfway sleeping on Eko’s bed

Inevitably, I woke up to this scene:

Eko gave me the “are you seeing this?” look while Penny gave her saddest “please don’t kick me off” eyes

“This is getting ridiculous,” I thought. I separated the dog beds to see if that might help the situation. Last night the dogs each went to their own bed, but of course when I woke up I saw this:

“Morning, Will. Please close the blinds, we’re trying to sleep here.”

Eko didn’t seem to mind the stowaway, or maybe he’s just applying the old mantra “If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em”

I have no idea where Penny learned she could just cozy up wherever she feels like.

Okay, I may have some idea

Penny’s always been my independent puppy, but as she gets older I think she’s realized life (and naps) are better spent with those you love.

And as for me, I guess I’ve realized I now own an extra guest bed.

Mine do the same thing – i bought two really nice orthopedic beds and they end up on one – why i have no idea.

  2. NM says:

True happiness is when you’re with the one(s) you love…literally and figuratively. She’s getting ready for the ‘winter season’..BRRRRR.

  3. As the weather has gotten crisper, I find Sam is a lot more cuddly too. There are worse things to happen and as long as big brother Eko doesn’t mind, it’s completely adorable.

  4. Thomas Walker says:

Hey guys, love that post! 3 of our ridgies have their own kennels but they all share the old whelping kennel! They just love to cuddle! Keep up the good work!

  5. coastingnz says:

Ziggy does that with Nico sometimes – comfort thing usually in strange surroundings so may just be due to house move until she gets used to it even though knows is new abode. Could also be draught you don’t know about coming across floor so maybe lie down there yourself and see. Then of course could just be that total loving thing but thought would mention what sets out boys off into total snuggle mode.

  6. Kismet says:

Kali is like another part of a peep’s body in the cooler weather. In the summer, no way.

  7. Emmadog says:

It is great they love to be so close together. We all prefer our own real estate around here. Sometimes Bailie and cat bro Bert snuggle together, but that is it.

  8. Cuddling is the best way to sleep – bar none. I know Mom likes it because she always says, “Get offa me with those bony little legs!” That’s good…. Right…?

    Love and licks.

  9. Smart girl! Rufus has had to share his bed with a few foster pups in the past as well…he’s not such a fan haha.

  10. I wonder if it is because of moving? She might feel more secure being right by Eko? Regardless of the reason, it’s precious
